Document exploitation and OCR for Middle Eastern languages
NovoDynamics Inc., headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, was created in 2001 through the merger between Catalytica NovoTec and NonLinear Dynamics, a company whose scientists had worked together for over a decade creating state-of-the-art applications that integrate techniques in pattern recognition, data mining, and image analysis. Under the guidance of CEO Donald Garaventi, NovoDynamics has focused on advancing the state-of-the-art of these technologies, and achieving success through the commercialization of the breakthrough products that result from such efforts. Commercial software products for document exploitation, drug discovery, and chemical informatics markets have been produced from NovoDynamics’ research and development projects and are now being sold in both the private and public sector, and efforts continue within the company to advance existing software as well as produce new software for commercialization.
In early 2003, NovoDynamics became an In-Q-Tel portfolio company and redoubled its effort to achieve high performance in both optical character recognition (OCR) and text retrieval for Middle Eastern languages. The company has since commercialized ArborScript™, the highest performance OCR and text retrieval system available for processing Arabic, Dari, Farsi, and Pashto documents.
The strength of ArborScript’s OCR engine is demonstrated by its integration into CACI’s DocEX suite, Kofax’s ADE system, and by In-Q-Tel’s recent selection of NovoDynamics, Inc. and Language Weaver to co-create an enhanced system to boost the performance of machine translation.
