Nanosys, Inc., is a leader in the development of nanotechnology-based products utilizing high-performance inorganic nanostructures. Founded in 2001, Nanosys has built one of the broadest technology platforms in the industry with more than 500 patents and patent applications covering fundamental aspects of high performance inorganic nanotechnology. Based in Palo Alto, California, Nanosys collaborates with industry leaders including Intel, NTT DoComo, Rodewell Collins, Bruker and Sharp to develop revolutionary high-value, high-performance products for computing, optoelectronics, communications, renewable energy, defense and the life sciences.
Nanosys leverages its nanotechnology platform by collaborating with industry leaders in each of its target markets to develop products. Nanotechnology enables new solutions to fundamental problems in virtually all industries, but few companies have access to the necessary tools and expertise to effectively use nanotechnology in their business by themselves. By working closely with partners, Nanosys combines specialized expertise and technology with partner’s core competencies to provide them with solutions to the needs of their markets. By using a common platform technology with multiple different partners, Nanosys can leverage its technology to commercialize the promise of nanotechnology in multiple industry opportunities.
In most applications, materials are used to fabricate devices. Unlike traditional materials, however, Nanosy’s nanotechnology allows the engineering of each individual nanostructure to incorporate device functionality. In essence, the materials are now devices themselves. These nanostructures can then be used to create products with much lower cost manufacturing (such as roll-to-roll fabrication methods) and with much higher functionality (such as lower power consumption and smaller and/or conformal form factors).
