Electrical Engineer
Job Description:
Individuals assigned to this position require limited guidance in performing the more difficult and complex assignments related to analyzing existing systems and defining, designing, and developing new system requirements in support of In-Q-Tel or customer products or services. Activities may include one or more of the following: hands on simulation development and analysis, verification and validation, requirements, design, integration, and test, and identification and incorporation of new products. Individuals apply comprehensive knowledge gained in both technical assignments and in previous tasks in the area of component, PCB, and systems design. They operate with appreciable latitude. Incumbents regularly work under deadlines and may be subject to extreme workloads. Judgment and creativity are regularly exercised in problem-solving and in providing proper advice and recommendations. Above average interpersonal skills are needed. Individuals usually interact closely with internal and external customers.
Responsibilities:
- Defines, designs, and develops component, PCB, and system requirements.
- Evaluates and modifies existing systems and recommends changes.
- Defines, designs, and develops testing criteria and procedures, test systems; performs tests on components, assemblies and systems; and prepares detailed test reports; and assures test deadline are met.
- Assesses architecture and current hardware limitations.
- Determines risk areas.
- Defines and designs complex system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.
- Coordinates design of subsystems and integration of the total system.
- Analyzes and resolves complex program support deficiencies.
- Conducts independent technical investigations in systems design.
- Coordinates and consolidates design and assembly efforts on assigned projects.
- Assists management in informing the customer about project progress. Assures that customer requests are addressed in a timely manner.
- Responds to customer comments and resolves customer concerns.
- Documents all problems and activities to resolve them. Reports progress on problem resolution to management.
- Serves as internal consultant in areas of special expertise, giving professional appraisal where necessary and indicating the manner in which solutions can be developed.
- Possesses visual acuity, that is, the ability to discern color and detail variations on a computer screen.
- Possesses manual dexterity to input, validate, and retrieve data via a computer keyboard.
- Works well with others and handles day-to-day situations with an acceptable, reasonable approach
Qualifications:
Incumbents must possess a BS degree in an electrical engineering, or the equivalent education and/or experience, plus a minimum 5 years of applicable experience, including experience with circuit and systems design principles, procedures, and practices, especially those related to In-Q-Tel or customer products or services. An andvanced EE, ME, or physics degree, or experience would be a plus. Individuals must be able to interpret internal and external customer needs and then translate these into systems design tasks. Incumbents must be able to communicate with and colaborate with others, and to explain complex technical subjects and processes. The establishment and maintenance of effective working relationships with staff, management, and internal and external customers are necessary. PC literacy is needed, including demonstrated expertise with the software and operating systems to be used on project assignments, including the use of electronic design and simulation software, such as Cadence. The ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing, is required.
